Colour treats, not tricks, for your window box
Posted by Tanya Wood on
Give your eyes a treat, not a trick, this Halloween by planting some colourful cyclamen in your window box! Using a free-draining compost, plant your window box in early winter, using cyclamen plants that are hardy and meant for outdoor use. Once planted, place your window box in a sheltered spot, protecting it from the worst of the winter weather and water enough to keep the compost moist. Red, white and pink cyclamen work well together to make a colourful winter display. Or you can add some variegated ivy to trail over the window box for a less uniform look....

Cabbage patch

For something a bit different, you can try planting ornamental cabbages in your window box, along with some white or pale pink pansies for a cool, smart look for autumn. Plant your window box in late summer using a compost that retains moisture. Keep watering and remove the flowers of the pansies as they fade to encourage more growth. Replacing the cabbages and pansies will extend your window box display through the autumn to the spring.

Wow, it's certainly been a busy few weeks here at Bay and Box HQ! Alongside some fantastic coverage in Stylist magazine, the Sunday Times and Wandsworth magazine, we have run competitions with The English Garden magazine and Gardeners' World online. In addition, we were also delighted to be part of the Old York Road Street Festival on 5 June. Luckily the sun came out just in time and there was a great atmosphere. The Bay and Box stall even got a visit from the Mayor of Wandsworth! Next up is the Northcote Summer Fete on Sunday 10 July - please...

Picture perfect

We have had a lot of compliments on the photos on our website which were taken by the fantastic Moritz Schmittat. For this particular shoot, we asked Moritz to capture various shots of our products both planted and empty, as well as in situ, to demonstrate the exact fit of our window boxes in terrace and bay windows. We also asked him to show how our outdoor planters can perfectly frame entrances. We were really happy with the results, especially when one photo appeared in Stylist magazine last week! Apparently the weather is continuing to heat up this week...
